Elijah challenged the people in I Kings 18:21; "How long will you go limping with two different opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal, then follow him."
And the people did not answer him a word.
When I read these words, I wondered, is this a word for us today? Evil seems to be infiltrating our world. We see it. We feel it. Yet we continue to welcome it into our cities, schools and communities. If we're honest, we've invited into our homes and our personal space.
O Come, Lord Jesus. Rescue us from our sin filled ways. We are prone to wander. We are hurting ourselves when we idolize these post card sized electronics. We feed it everything. They hold our lives in pictures. Our contacts are held within it's metal confines. It's 'memory' has kept record of every chat, every shared moment, every article searched, read, liked, loved and hated. It analyzes our data, sharing it at will. Then it prompts itself to overwhelm us with ads, articles, photos and memes, personalized to our interests.
This causes me to wonder . . . who is in control? For someone, somewhere, knows me better than I know myself. Let that sink in. Someone knows you better than you know yourself.
But I have hope for you today! The good news, really good news is that Someone knows you better than you know yourself!
This Someone is God. The holy, almighty, faithful, forgiving, transforming, eternal, good, good God! He is the creator, the author and finisher of our faith! He is love. He saves us from our sins. He is the star breathing, eternal God. The God who is, who was, and who is to come!
And this God loves you with an unending love!
In Psalms 139, David acknowledges that God knows our every move, He is acquainted with all of our ways. He knows what we are going to say before the words leave our lips! He goes before us and behind us. His hand rests upon us. We can never hide from His Spirit. Wherever we go, the heavens or Sheol, to the utter most parts of the sea, He is with us! He is the light within the darkness.
God knew you before you were. He has your days written, every single one, before they were yet to be! He knit you together in your mother's womb. And He thinks of you always. His thoughts for you outnumber the sands on the shore.
God is the Someone who knows you better than you know yourself! He has a destiny, a future, a purpose planned with your name on it! He will never give up on you!
Whom will you serve? This one true God? Or the gods who are invading this land? Both are watching, listening and waiting on you.
We are living in tumultuous times. It's time to quit limping. It's time to get off the fence. Choose you this day whom you will serve. Joshua 24:15
If God is for us; (and He is!) who can stand against us? Romans 8:31
Follow His lead in the Scriptures below.
Romans 10:8-11, 13
But what does it say? The word is near you, on your lips and in your heart (that is, the word of faith which we preach); because if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For man believes with his heart and so is justified, and he confesses with his lips, and so is saved. The Scripture says, "No one who believes in him will be put to shame."
For every one who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Choose God! The battle is for your soul.
